Within the local church, there are only two offices; pastor and deacon (Philippians 1:1). This does not mean that there is no need for competent leadership beyond these offices. In fact, there is a need for a myriad of godly men and women to lead the numerous ministries within the local church. God appointed the office of pastor to give oversight to the local ministries and the church appoints deacons to help the pastor in carrying out this administration. God also gifted every believer with at least one spiritual gift so that everyone in the local assembly can work as one team, with one purpose, under a united leadership to carry out His mission on earth.
The deacons must be qualified men (Acts 6:1-6; 1 Timothy 3:8-13) who are actively doing the work of the ministry. Calvary has three deacons -- Craig Akins, Virgil Cormier and Ed Fox.
